Orthopaedic Residency Program

The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program provides an excellent educational experience for residents that draws upon the outstanding resources of five affiliated medical institutions in the Los Angeles area. Residents receive a comprehensive education in musculoskeletal care and extensive exposure to all areas of orthopaedic surgery including:

  • Adult reconstructive surgery and total joint replacement
  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Hand surgery
  • Musculoskeletal oncology
  • Pediatric orthopaedic surgery
  • Spinal surgery
  • Sports medicine
  • Trauma

The Orthopaedic Department has developed one of the most comprehensive didactic educational programs in the nation that includes a core curriculum, weekly subspecialty conferences, Journal Club, Grand Rounds, and an evidence based research conference. In addition, one resident per year has the opportunity to spend a year doing laboratory research after the PGY-2 year.

Medical Student Clerkships

Clerkships are available for students interested in spending four weeks with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Fourth year medical students interested in doing a sub-internship/clerkship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery spend 2 weeks on one of the adult elective services at Keck Hospital of USC and 2 weeks on the trauma or hand services at Los Angeles General Medical Center. Juliann Kwak Lee, MD supervises this sub-internship program.
